Congratulations Elizabeth May
We are pleased that the party so strongly endorsed our new leader on the first ballot. We look forward to working with her.
The council election results are also in. One-half of the freshstart candidates were elected out of a wide field. Well done!
For all those who did not make it, remember, there's another council election in one year!
Complete council ballot results can be downloaded here (word doc).
The following candidates are campaigning to bring a fresh professionalism to the Green Party of Canada. Regardless of who we work with on Council, each of us is individually committed to the following values:
Integrity, Accountability, Transparency in Governance, and Grassroots Participatory Democracy...
Fresh Start for Integrity
We believe that Party officers and processes must adhere to the highest standards of ethics. We support resolutions calling for:
- clear standards of behaviour from officers, staff and contracted professionals
- specific funding for the grassroots and local levels of our party
- cooperation with provincial parties and establishing Green Party of Canada regional offices throughout Canada
- broad consultation and cooperation with Electoral District Associations and Provincial and Territorial Divisions - the local activists who are the heart of the party (see liability insurance)
- financial and administrative support for a Green Party Youth Wing
Fresh Start for Accountability
If we are to be accountable to voters, The Green Party must be accountable to its members and electoral district associations. That means transparency of Council procedures and resolutions. We support:
- quarterly detailed financial reports
- democratic control of the GPC Fund by elected members of the Party
- open and participatory Council meetings
- increased French programming and publishing to engage our current and possible francophone members and voters
Fresh Transparency
We believe that a successful Party will be open and inclusive to its members, in order to reap the benefits that enthusiasm and innovation will provide. We commit to:
- Return of The Living Platform (in both official languages) for full participation in policy processes
- timely notice by mail to members of internal elections and constitutional reviews
- Clear and current access for members to all Council minutes, resolutions, and constitutional documents (in both official languages)
Fresh Leadership
All the current candidates for both Chair and Leader, have tremendous skills to bring. The following candidates have endorsed our key principles.
- Both Catharine Johannson Constantine Kritsonis for Chair. They both show faultless integrity and deep knowledge of the GPC's governance and constitutional history, and have agreed to work with each other regardless of the outcome. With a preferential ballot, we can show our support for both these fine candidates and we hope that you will too.
- Elizabeth May for Leader of the Green Party of Canada. We believe that her tremendous stature and peerless leadership will translate into a new vision for the Party, and attract many new exciting members and opportunities.
- Inclusion of more French-speaking and Quebecois members of Council. Our suggested group includes 9 French-speaking Councillors

Since getting an invitation to be included on the Fresh Start slate, I have been pondering my involvement. I see that I have been endorsed here and that certainly feels good.
I do, however, have a couple of reservations that I would like to put out there.
One is with the name itself, Fresh Start. I don't think that everything that has happened over the past two years has been bad. Some of it has been bad. Some of it has been good.
I don't want to start all over again. I want to take the good and build on it. I want to change the bad and learn from it.
My second concern is that I find slates divisive by nature. It is my hope to have fine people elected from this list AND the "other" list and that we will work together cooperatively for common purpose under a unifying leader. That doesn't mean there will be no conflict. That doesn't mean we don't need a code of conduct, though I would like to remove words like "nice" and "pleasant" from such a guideline and ensure that there are proper avenues for appeal and remove the ability of council to dismiss duly elected councillors. I would like to see the development of clear, documented terms of reference for all roles and relationships between council, staff, members and EDAs.
That all said, I agree with everything else on this front page under Integrity, Accountability and Transparency. I am in full support of Elizabeth May and Catharine Johannson.

I would also like to thank this group for their endorsement. While I am not a member of the Fresh Start team I applaud their commitment to, and share a respect for, the principles of integrity, accountability & transparency.
I maintain personal integrity by staying true to my own moral & ethical values.
If called to account I will gladly demonstrate my accountability. This is an important action for a member of council.
Disclosing information without undue delay would be an example of transparency and I am committed to doing so as a member of federal council.
Our Key Value of Participatory Democracy states 'that all elected representatives are committed to the principles of transparency, truthfulness, and accountability in governance.' I am proud of our Key Values and if elected I will work with other members of council to ensure that our Key Values are respected and that they direct our actions.
I would also like to state that I was drawn to the Green Party in part by the Living Platform. Your collective support of the Living platform, as stated in your text regarding fresh transparency, is a great thing to see. I am very interested in working to bring focus back to the the Living Platform.
Thank you.

Sadly there is no way to debate anything useful in this wiki yet due to bad page naming habits. The highest priority for freshstart, Living Agenda, Living Platform, is to ruthlessly eliminate title capitalization and concept capitalization.
If you capitalize concepts without linking them, you are claiming control of what they mean. If you capitalize concepts while linking them, you are implying that the article you link to is the authoritative one. If you link without capitalizing, as I require above, then you are opening the article you link to to editing by any others.
It should be fairly obvious which of those three styles is the one a democracy with rule of law requires.
This is the single most destructive and cooperation-destroying habit in any medium of communication that is in common use in 2006. It causes internal linking to fail, because guessing what is in caps and what is not is impossible. It causes proper naming to be abandoned, databases to be corrupted, searches to fail.
For instance, "Key Value of Participatory Democracy" is a specific concept. You signal this in 2006 by making it a link, i.e. "[[key value]] of [[participatory democracy]]" or if necessary "[[key value of participatory democracy]]".
Use Reuters titles not AP titles. Wiki can't work using AP titles.
In English, we capitalize proper names (Reuters, English itself, Green Party of Canada) but not concepts. French is even more rigorous and correct in not capitalizing the name of the language itself.
I charge for editing wikis by the capital letter. I will remove them everywhere required, and will charge for each.

Though it is wiki, we use it only as a web site.
